November Newsletter 2023

Dear Member

We are still looking for help with our Outdoor, Sunday Painting meetings.

They have been ably organised by committee member Lyn Rackley for some time now. As explained last month, she really cannot continue with the whole task after this year. She will, of course, be there to liaise with, advise and back-up anyone who can help with the job.

Perhaps, instead of one of our members taking on the whole task, a few of you could help? Each volunteer would choose one venue where a group could visit – maybe somewhere local to you. The sessions are from April to October (not including July, when the club holiday takes place). A ‘site visit’ to each venue is likely to be needed, and at some of the sites it will be necessary to liaise with people to gain access permission and to plan the day more formally. For easier communication between organisers and participants we think that setting up a WhatsApp group for ‘outdoor painters’ to join will be a good idea.

If this is something you would like to do for the Club please contact us or at a Tuesday Painting session for a discussion. We now have a small group of regulars coming and it would be a shame if we lost the momentum.

Events in November

Workshop

Watercolour workshop with Catherine Beale, Sunday November 12th, 10am to 4pm in Cookham Dean Village Hall, Church Road, Cookham Dean, Sl6 9PY.

If you have booked a place, please arrive at 09.30, to make sure we are all set up and ready for a prompt start at 10am. Tea and coffee will be available all day. Bring your own mug and packed lunch. Sue will email participants with any other requirements for the day.

If you haven’t signed up, there are still a few places available, so why not come and join in as Catherine helps us to ‘loosen up our watercolours’.

If you would like to take part get your applications in as soon as possible, and not later than 22nd October.

To join the workshop, for which the fee is £40, please contact us requesting how many places you will require.

Sue will then email your confirmation and outline your payment options. No payment will be required until Sue has emailed you and confirmed your place.

Eizabeth House

Elizabeth House Day Centre in Cookham Rise is now hosting a display of our paintings. Do come and visit and bring along your friends and family. On our website under Exhibitions/Other Art Displays you will find more about this.

Open on weekdays until some-time after Christmas, from 10 – 12 and 2 – 4 (3pm on Fridays) (closed for lunch time, as it is in the dining area).

Monthly Meeting

Our next Monthly Meeting is our AGM, on Thursday November 16th, 2 – 4pm in the Parish Centre (Church Gate, Cookham, SL6 9SP).

As well as the usual business of the AGM, we will have a fascinating talk about Cliveden and the Astors.

Do come along for what we are sure will be both an entertaining and educational afternoon.

If you would like to put forward any points for discussion, please do get in touch with me at least a week before the meeting and I will make sure there is a time slot in the agenda for you.

Coming Soon

A date for the diary. Is it too early to mention Christmas? The CAC Christmas party is on Thursday December 14th , from 12.45 – 3pm, in the Parish Centre. Look out for more details in our next newsletter.

Recent Club Events

Sunday Painting

The Sunday Painting on 1st October  at Higginson Park, near Marlow bridge was an enjoyable day. This was the last of this season – please do volunteer to help with future meetings if you can.

Outdoor Painting at Taplow Court in September was also a very enjoyable day out.

The kind people at the venue have invited us to come again.

That’s one outdoor meeting almost planned for next year already – we just need to decide when best to go.

Cookham Dean Village Fete

Cookham Dean Village Fete took place in September. Members Lyn and Aiko had an enjoyable day demonstrating and chatting about their skills in watercolour painting and decorating ceramics. Other members brought along paintings to put on a display in the village hall. Thankyou to all who participated to support this traditional fete. Have a look on our website www.cookhamartsclub.com and in the video section you will find a little tour of the fete, and see Aiko and Lyn at work.

TIP OF THE MONTH

If you are using masking tape on your painting, and do not want it to stick too firmly, try making it a bit ‘fluffy’ by e.g. sticking it to a towel first. If it has stuck too firmly, it can be warmed with a hair dryer to soften the glue.

Yours sincerely
