Dear Member

Watendlath, a watercolour by Lyn Rackley

As I settle to the task of composing this month’s Newsletter the weather has been distinctly Icelandic. It seems an appropriate time to ask if you have taken the opportunity to watch Keith Hornblower painting a watercolour Icelandic scene? He has prepared a video especially for Cookham Arts Club and it is available via a link which he has given us just for our members: (and this has been sent by email to all our members). This link will be available for about three months so you can watch it at any time.

Even though we couldn’t get together as usual, we still managed to hold a critique in January. It was good to see that a lot of members sent their paintings in and joined Tony Jackson, on Zoom. He gave constructive comments on our work and tried, for each artist, to suggest areas for improvement or parts of the picture where he could suggest a different approach. All in all, a very worthwhile and enjoyable meeting.

The Spring Art Exhibition and Sale

As mentioned in the last Newsletter we plan to hold this over the Easter weekend 2nd – 5th April

At the time of writing, we do not know whether we will be able to go ahead because of Covid restrictions.

We will let members know as soon as we can whether or not it will take place.

An on-line demonstration has been planned for March 18th, from 2 to 4pm.

Join Melissa Wishart on Zoom as she demonstrates a seascape in oils or acrylic. Wouldn’t we all love to get away to the seaside at the moment? We will send you the link to this event nearer the time.

‘Tuesday Paintings’.

Do keep painting and sending me your photos (rdjforcac@gmail.com). Quite a few people have told me how much they enjoy seeing them. As with the usual ‘Tuesday Painting’, anything goes – so feel free to send me pictures of your art, on or off topic. See extra pages enclosed, or extra PDF sent by email, for pictures sent in last month.

Coming Soon

Sunday April 25th, 10am – 4pm, Cookham Dean Village Hall – Workshop.

Mark Warnercoastal seascape, Acrylics and/or pastels. This is the meeting we had planned for last April but had to cancel.

We do hope that by this April we will be able to hold a ‘proper’ workshop in the Village Hall – but who knows, we may be using Zoom? We will give you more details in the next Newsletter.

New Arts Evening Thursday 20th May, 7 – 9 pm, Critique by George Boyter. Start painting a NEW modern style (non-representational) work. Hopefully by May this really will be a ‘proper’ meeting at the Parish Centre – look out for more details later.

And finally, someone did send us another art-related joke:

At a gallery a man sat on a bench gazing at a colourful painting. He said to the artist “how I wish I could take home an impression of those beautiful colours.” The artist replied “I’m sure you will, you’re sitting on my palette!”
