Please remember that if you joined only recently (i.e. during or since the Summer Exhibition) your membership runs until Dec 31st 2025.
Recent Club Events
Recent events have included an oil/acrylic workshop with Tushar Sabale, a demonstration of a coastal scene by Rodney Kingston, a watercolour workshop with Frank Walters, and our regular Tuesday Painters had a ‘design a Christmas Card’ competition. Just think what you might be missing if you do not renew your membership – it seems like good value to us!!
Workshop
The Tushar Sabale workshop was an enjoyable day. He is a good presenter and was very willing to help if you were struggling a bit with your painting. It was interesting to see what we all had done as Tushar reviewed the paintings at the end of the workshop.
Monthly Meeting
Rodney Kingston showed some lovely colour mixes to use for the sea and cliffs in a coastal scene.
Workshop
One of the participants of the Frank Walters workshop wrote: “I think it was a successful day. He told me that he mostly teaches beginners, so he took us back to basics. Very informative to those new to watercolours, but also a good refresher for the more experienced. He has a three-step approach. The first stage is a wash in light colours. He called the second layer a calligraphy of drawing in with paint in the medium tones. The final layer was to put in some strong darks, which really showed up the lights, then he finished with a thin wash of Ultramarine with a dash of Alizarin Crimson to put in the shadows.”
Frank sent this link to one of his videos, click here to view.
Tuesday Painting
At Tuesday Painting the prize for the best Christmas Card was awarded to this amusing design by Rita – well done!
Events in December
The Christmas Party
Thursday 19th December, 12.45 – 3pm, in the Parish Centre (Church Gate, Cookham, SL6 9SP).
We invite you all to come and enjoy some convivial company and good food in the Parish Centre to celebrate Christmas. We ask all those coming to bring a plate of food to share; the club will supply the drinks. To make sure that we have a good range of foods, Rachel Ireland has kindly agreed to coordinate the list. Please email or telephone her as soon as possible (as detailed in members’ copies of the newsletter) to suggest what you will bring. This will also give us an idea of numbers to cater for.
We will hold a raffle with some lovely prizes including a voucher for a year’s membership. We will have a prize Quiz for each table group.

At Cookham Dean Village Hall, Church Road, Cookham Dean, Berks SL6 9PY, from 1.40 to 5pm.
When you next go to CDVH, please look out for the ‘Topic suggestions’ list and the ‘Volunteer to bring the cakes’ list. We do give ‘cake expenses’ of £15, so the cake supply should only take a little of your time.

TIP OF THE MONTH
As you progress with a painting take photos regularly – they can help assess your composition. Change them to black and white to help assess the tonal strengths you have achieved – or need to achieve!
On an iPhone or Android phone for example, choose edit and then filters and you should find monochrome options.
Yours sincerely
